MCP Server

The shadcn MCP server lets AI assistants work with registry items. Browse what's available, search for something specific and install it into your project in plain language.

Setup

1.Add the MCP server

Run this in a project that has a components.json (see CLI) and pick your assistant when asked. @creative-ui is in the shadcn registry directory, so there's nothing to add to the config.

$ npx shadcn@latest mcp init

2.Or set up a specific client

Skip the prompt by naming the client. Restart the assistant afterwards so it loads the server.

$ npx shadcn@latest mcp init --client claude

Try it

Once the server is connected, ask your assistant things like the prompts below. Name @creative-ui in the request: on its own, the assistant only searches the registries listed in components.json.

  • Show me everything in the @creative-ui registry
  • Add the DNA Carousel component from @creative-ui
  • Install the Classical Collage Web Design skill from @creative-ui
  • Find a @creative-ui component for image effects and add it to the hero

Installs go through the same CLI, so files land where they always do. Components go to components/ and skills go to .claude/skills/.
